AVillage has been an advocate and innovator in the sound end neighborhood of Albany for eight years. Its work focuses on addressing severe health disparities in the community as its mission is to improve the quality of life for residents in the south end neighborhood. The goal of the South End Healthy Market, which is operating for its sixth year, is to ameliorate food insecurity and health disparities by supplying south end Albany residents with affordable, healthful fruits and vegetables and by offering nutrition and wellness classes.
This year’s South End Healthy Market programming kicked off on June 30 and will be held each Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. through the end of summer at the Capital South Campus Center. Depending on availability of produce, the market may function into October. Supported by the Amplify Albany Grant Program, in expanding its programming this year each Market Event will feature live music, children’s activities, and opportunities for local businesses, artists and makers.
