legislation in 1948. The first public housing
units constructed were Robert M. Whalen
Homes located in Arbor Hill.
Between 1951 and now, AHA has grown
to 18 developments including new construction
in North Albany made possible by the HOPE
VI program.

Arbor Hill Homes
Arbor
Hill Homes will
consist of 54 units
of new construction
(infill) rental housing
and are part of the
last phase of a 1998 US
Department of Housing
and Urban Development HOPE
VI grant awarded
to the Albany
Housing Authority.
The housing will
be located in clusters
on several blocks
of Arbor Hill, primarily
west of North Swan
Street on First and
Second Streets, and
on Lark Street, including
sites west of Lark
Street on Second
and Third Streets.
In
1999, the funds were
used to redevelop Edwin
Corning Homes in North
Albany into 160 mixed-income
residential units.
Arbor Hill Homes helps
to restore the total
number of affordable
housing units demolished
in the redevelopment
of Corning Homes.

"Gun Violence Task Force"
The City of Albany Gun Violence Task Force will host a community forum concerning gun violence in Albany on Tuesday August 19th 2008 at the Philip Schuyler Achievement Academy located at 676 Clinton Ave, Albany, NY 12206. This event will take place from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. following the regularly scheduled task force meeting. For more information call (518) 434-5087.
