Welcome to Albany Housing Authority

Albany Housing Authority was established by NYS legislation in 1948. The first public housing units constructed were Robert M. Whalen Homes located in Arbor Hill.

Between 1951 and now, AHA has grown to 18 developments including new construction in North Albany made possible by the HOPE VI program.

Arbor Hill Homes

Arbor Hill Homes will consist of 54 units of new construction (infill) rental housing and are part of the last phase of a 1998 US Department of Housing and Urban Development HOPE VI grant awarded to the Albany Housing Authority. The housing will be located in clusters on several blocks of Arbor Hill, primarily west of North Swan Street on First and Second Streets, and on Lark Street, including sites west of Lark Street on Second and Third Streets.

In 1999, the funds were used to redevelop Edwin Corning Homes in North Albany into 160 mixed-income residential units. Arbor Hill Homes helps to restore the total number of affordable housing units demolished in the redevelopment of Corning Homes.
