Warrior on Wheels gets donation from Uber | NEWS10 ABC
ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Uber drivers in the Capital Region are doing more than just getting you from point a to point b.
Project Jumpstart donates to local charities selected by Uber drivers in the community.
This may look like your average gym but it serves a very special clientele and now the founder is getting a little extra help from Uber
Drivers across the Capital Region were recently asked to nominate local charities to be part of the company’s new initiative Project Jumpstart.
One of those drivers is Jeff Looman.
“Then they had all the drivers vote on the charities that were selected and then Ned got it.”
He nominated his friend Ned Norton, the founder of Warriors on Wheels.
“It was a real surprise. I had no idea that they even nominate us.”
Warriors on Wheels is a non-profit strength and conditioning program for people with disabilities.
“The motto here has always been we don’t worry about what you can’t do we focus on what you can do.”
“We get a lot of work done, we do. But we have a lot of fun too.”
Norton works with people with various disabilities and has been running the program for three decades.
He says the $15,000 from Uber will go towards buying new bikes at the gym.
“You know we get little grants here or there. So to get a grant like that out of the blue was awesome.”
Uber will be giving donations like this one quarterly and released this statement:
“Thank you to Jeffrey for nominating Warriors on Wheels – Uber is proud to support this impactful organization.”
Looman says he couldn’t think of an organization more deserving than Warriors on Wheels.
“He works good with the people, he loves who he works with, he treats them good he’s funny. It’s just something he enjoys and it’s good to watch people like that.”
